Nature of Light

There two theories about the nature of light, that are Wave Theory and Particle Theory.

Wave Theory: Light consist of electromagnetic waves which do not need a material to propagate. Wavelength of visible light is 400–700 nanometres (nm).  Speed of light in vacuum s 300,000 kilometres per second.

Reflection, Refraction and diffractions (bending of light around the corner of tiny object) are explained based on wave theory of light.

Particle Theory: Light is composed of particles which travels in a strength line at very high speed.

Casting of shadow of object light and photoelectric effect explained based on particle nature of light only.

Quantum Theory of Light (Dual Nature): Light exhibits the properties of both waves and particles (depending on the situation it is in). Theory which combines both wave and particle nature of light called as quantum theory of light.
